The Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 was a major conflict between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. The war began in April 1877, when Russia declared war on the Ottoman Empire after the Ottomans refused to grant autonomy to the Christian population of the Balkans. The war ended in March 1878, with the Treaty of Berlin, which gave Russia significant territorial gains in the Balkans and established the independent state of Bulgaria.

Course of the War

In the Caucasus, the Russians also made significant gains, capturing the city of Kars.

The war ended in March 1878, with the Treaty of Berlin. The treaty gave Russia significant territorial gains in the Balkans, including the Dobruja region, which was transferred from Romania to Russia. The treaty also established the independent state of Bulgaria.
